трюдо объявил о том что правительство одобрило строительство двух веток нефтепровода по территории British Columbia, и мораторий на передвижение танкеров в одном из районов прибрежных вод

details:"As a result of the Kinder Morgan project, oil tanker traffic along the B.C. coast would increase from four or five a month to 34 tankers.

The best science to date concludes that there is no established or competent method for cleaning up diluted bitumen once it has been spilled in any aquatic environment.

The tar sands produce among the world’s most costly oil, and are already the largest source of greenhouse gases in the nation.
...
“As for an anticipated increase in government revenue, Allan points out that Kinder Morgan has been clear in its annual report communications to shareholders that it pays very little tax on its Canadian operation: during the five years between 2009 and 2013, Kinder Morgan reported average income of $172 million on which it paid an average $1.5 million in taxes. Accordingly, any government windfall would have to come from increased income on oil sales.

“On that count, University of British Columbia political scientist (and Acting Dean of Arts) Kathryn Harrison wrote, in her submission to the panel: ‘The economic analysis underlying the Trans Mountain proposal does not take into account the potential for policy changes to impact global demand for oil, particularly Canada’s relatively expensive and carbon-intensive oil. It is not credible that policies affecting demand for oil will remain stagnant for the 20-to 30-year life of the proposed project... It is already projected that petroleum consumption in California, Japan and South Korea will decline. In the case of China and India, there is greater uncertainty to be sure, but it is a fundamental flaw of the TMX proposal that it does not even consider the implications of possible climate policy initiatives in making the economic case for the project.’"

Trudeau Gov’t Approves Two Major Pipeline Projects, Vows Tanker Moratorium

"...leader of the BC Green Party, said the federal decision betrayed the trust of British Columbians. “As a scientist, I can say unequivocally that we remain completely and utterly unprepared for a major oil spill,” he said. “Instating a ban for part of the coast while increasing heavy oil tanker traffic by 580 [percent] in another is completely outrageous. It ignores basic ocean science. We need to protect the entire coast.”
...
The Coastal Nations said the government was right to quash the Northern Gateway proposal and formalize the oil tanker moratorium. “We’re jubilant to see this final nail in the coffin to Enbridge Northern Gateway,” said Patrick Kelly, the CFN board chair. “Coastal First Nations have been calling for this decision since 2011. It’s a huge victory for us and for all coastal communities that depend on our coastal marine resources.”

The Treaty Alliance Against Tar Sands Expansion has been signed by more than 100 Nations and Tribes, including 56 in B.C., said Grand Chief Stewart Philip, president of the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs. “Ultimately, as the Trudeau government is well aware, these projects will not succeed,” he said. “The opposition is too great, and we will remain united, strong and determined.”

The Dogwood Initiative called the Kinder Morgan decision a “cynical betrayal” that would have heavy political consequences for Trudeau. “As acknowledged by Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould during her election campaign -- and many other legal observers -- federal approval today does not mean the Kinder Morgan project will be built,” it said. “First Nations will challenge the approval in court, while British Columbia retains jurisdiction over dozens of permits required for construction.”

The group said it would begin a citizens’ initiative to force a provincial referendum on whether bitumen should be transported to the west coast and noted a recent poll showed British Columbians oppose oil tanker traffic by a factor of two to one.

He imposed a tanker ban for the North Coast, when he should have done it for the whole coast. Why is only one part of the coast more important than the other? His credibility plummeted with this decision.

Today, the message is that we as people in British Columbia need to rise up and protect the land and water for the future of our children and grandchildren. This can be done in many ways, from being on the land to being in the court and in the media.

We have learned from the Dakota Access pipeline, and those protests can be repeated here with even stronger results. We can bring in our allies who will stand with us.

Trudeau said he knew there are people who feel strongly on both sides of the issue, and in Canada we can express ourselves, but it must be done peacefully.

If Trudeau wanted peace, he would have axed the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline."
